Dead Poets Society
Dead Poets Society is a movie about a teacher with unorthodox teaching methods, Mr. Keating. It shows how he affects these prep school boys that are accustomed to a "sit down, shut up" type of ideology in a classroom. He makes them talk about their feelings, and really allows them to be themselves, whoever that may be. He encourages them that being doctors, or lawyers are things that will provide for your monatary needs in life, but asks them to also think of what they will do to make their own lives worth living. He also teaches to the kids that being your own person is okay and you must once and a while bend the rules, but there is a time when you must do as your told. Dead Poets Society is set in 1959, right at the turning point of the decade. This helps illustrate the point of going against conformity, and also enforces the theme of teen rebellion and revolution.
